A He-Man for Both Sides of the Fandom

For more than 40 years, Masters of the Universe fans have had slightly different ideas about who He-Man should be.

There are fans who gravitate toward the more barbarian-inspired He-Man of the earliest minicomics: a powerful warrior rooted firmly in sword-and-sorcery adventure.

Then there is the version that became much more familiar to the general public through Filmation: Prince Adam, a compassionate hero whose tremendous physical strength is balanced by kindness, restraint and a desire to do what is right.

One of the things the 2026 Masters of the Universe movie gets right is that it doesn’t completely choose between those interpretations.

Instead, it gives us both.

  • The movie combines elements of the barbarian-inspired early He-Man with the more compassionate Prince Adam associated with Filmation.
