Official Wizard World Chicago 2005 talkback thread

I figured with Preview night being tonight, that there would be some folks who could give us an update. I doubt we'll hear anything new that we didn't hear from SDCC, but I'll be there tomorrow & all weekend to report on what I see.

Biggest things I'm looking forward to:

NECA - Hopefully seeing the Wave 2 & 3 stactions and getting a Randor
Palisades - Picking up a Super Grover figure
Nintendo - Praying that they will have footage of the new Zelda game (Preferably playable)
Mattel - Yeah, they're on my **** list, but I'm anxiously wanting to see the 4H DC Superheroes prototypes
And last but not least, hanging out at the he-man.org/MVC table w/Val, Emiliano, the rest of my Chicago Horde, and all other .orgers who attend!

Okay so who was at the table last night at Giordanos? I saw Kate and Val, but didn't hear anybody else'e name. I was in the both directly behind Katy. I'm going to try to stop by the table today.

well I got one hell of a haul today. No Randor. They will be giving out 96 per day (F, Sat/Sun) and there is no drawing. They sold out in 20 minutes today. I will get one tomorrow! Cornboy is awesome! I was able to talk to him about the Magma Corps line and I'm really looking forward to them. I also picked up an extra chase version if anyone wants to buy it. I can basically get anyone anything they want tomorrow except a Randor. They are limited to 1 per person all weekend and like I said, I had enough trouble getting one today so I'm keeping mine. I got tons of extra Batman figures (no mask) I bought several trying to get both versions so if anyone needs those, let me know. It was a blast! I really like Twisted and ICP (which ironically Twisted was there today) so I got their autograph and met them. Cool guys.

E-mail me with any questions! My .org link isn't working well for some reason so this may be my only post.

Mixed Feelings

Well i was at WW today and I have mixed feelings, on one hand I was happy to meet Cornboy (he's a great guy, we discussed the FAN tastic Exclusive plan and sounds great!!)
Also I met Emiliano whos great!! He signed my TPB and did a Randor Sketch for my wife, also I got to meet GODBEAST (who hooked me up with a Randor, more on that later) and BIZARRO both great guys, I also met who I assume was Rainbow brite, (I was the guys with the PACMAN ghosts T-shirt) and I just kept asking her where the hell Val was, (I missed him!!!)
so that was really cool!
But I was a little dissapointed because this is my 3rd time at WW and I found this year's Con very boring, and with a lack of Action Figure booths, not that many variety and selection, I don't know...between that and the frustration with NECA's distribuition of the Randor, I arrived at NECA's booth at 10:30 and they we're already sold out for the day (only 96 I think were available) so a lot of them are on hands of VIP's, Scalpers and just a few for the fans, really this Exclusive deal is getting out of hand in all cons...
they tolde me they oversold figures on Preview night, ***!!!!
I told Cornboy and he was extremely nice and basically told me that they would start selling them at 2:00 pm on Saturday to avoid what happened today, but I'm not going tomorrow so...
as you guys can imagine I was really frustrated, anyway I went to the org's booth and there I met BIZARRO who told me that he was meeting with GODBEAST and I was too, so I waited until GB arrived, in the meantime I met Emiliano, and lucky me, GB had my accesories and afterwards he offered me a Randor wich I more than happy accepted!!

Afterwards I went on looking for some of the last Muppet figures that
I needed to complete my collection (the line is ending too...) and trying to find some more stuff like Ghostbusters figures, some Starwars stuff, but overall it was pretty dissapointed... I found a figure I've never seen, a Merman with an Exclusive card, but it was out of my budget, so I was happy with My Randor, my GB accesories and my Super Grover,
and left the place with a bittersweet experience, but I guess I shouldn't complain, at least I got a Randor, unlike a lot of fans...

Nice to meet cool people and thanks all!!

OK, here's how the whole Randor situation happened:

I don't know how many NECA brought with them, but after Preview night, they only had 280 left for the entire weekend. Friday morning, advance ticket holders got in at 9:00, with everybody else getting in at 10:00. Me and 3 other Chicago Horde members got to NECA's booth at 9:10, 10 minutes after the doors opened, and NECA had already cut off the line, saying that the 96 or so Randors allotted for the day were spoken for.

It's really a shame that the General Admission folks didn't even get the chance to pick one up today, but I don't know that the plan for Saturday is gonna be any better. Last I heard, NECA would start selling Randors at 2pm on Saturday, and that they will NOT allow a line to start forming until 1pm. I have no clue as to how they are going to be able to maintain this policy with people pushing, shoving, complaining and screaming, but at least everybody who goes tomorrow will get the same chance. I just hope that the continued sales on NECA MOTU exclusives will wake NECA up to one of a few things:

1. Either allot the same number of exclusives for EVERY day, (250 for Preview night, 250 for Friday, 250 for Saturday, 250 for Sunday, etc...) or DON'T SELL THEM ON PREVIEW NIGHT AT ALL!!!!! They apparently just kept selling them at SDCC Preview night, and realized that they oversold, which hurt people's chances during regular Con days, and they didn't learn their lesson and did the same thing at WWC. Is it that hard to do the math?

2. Not that it's my favorite policy, but the lottery system CAN be the fairest way to insure everybody gets the same chance. Sure, scalpers will bring friends with them to get extras, which sucks, but even though they may end up winning multiples, they may also not end up winning any.

3. Start working with Con staff ahead of time to set up a pre-registration, where if you buy tickets in advance, you are guaranteed a purchase of any exclusives you want. It's not hard to fill out a form with a checklist that people can pick and choose which exclusives they do & don't want. Then the company can figure out how many they are required to bring, and how many extras they feel like bringing as well.

The NECA booth was pretty small, about the same size as last year's. The only MOTU stuff on display was carded Wave 1 stactions, a regular size Mantenna staction, and 2-Ups of the other 5 announced future stactions. They did also have the Magma Corps figure available seperately from Randor, which was cool. The 2-Ups in person are un-freakin-believable! Cornboy was really cool, and it was fun seeing him put the 2-Ups together in the case.

Other bits & pieces I noticed: Mattel was doing a lottery for Catwoman & Batman, but you could go up and get several lottery tickets over the course of the day, (As they didn't even bother to write your ticket number down on your badge, or stamp it until you actually won) until they did the drawing at 2pm. There was literally NO LINE to get tickets for these. A buddy of mine & I each got 2 lottery tickets, and 3 of them won. You could buy 1 of each, and they did have a few extra Catwomen, and a LOT of extra Batman, which they were selling outright at the end of the day. I have a feeling that come Sunday, they'll most likely just be selling them straight up, similar to what they did w/She-Ra last year. The 4H DC Superheroes prototypes are awesome, and provided they are allowed to get more into the DC Universe outside of Batman/Superman mythos, this line is really gonna give Marvel Legends a run for its money. (Provided the price point is similar)

Not a whole lot of MOTU stuff in the dealer area, but there were several figures here & there, along with a good number of booths selling the stactions. Most had the staggered price points for individual stactions, with Snout Spout being the cheapest, and Hordak being the priciest. But they were also selling sets for competitive retail price, between $60 & $70. For the most part, dealers with toys primarily had Star Wars & Marvel Legends. And of course, most of them were relatively high. Saw a few decent prices around, but not anything that makes me want to buy before Sunday, when dealers are looking to sell more so they have less to take home.

The .org booth was pretty busy most of the day, with fellow .orgers hanging out meeting & gretting each other, along with Val, Emiliano, Leanne & Rod. About 30 of us went out to dinner Friday night, and were very surprised we didn't get kicked out with our roudiness. Especially when we moved all the tables & chairs for some group pictures the waitstaff graciously took for us.

All in all, the Con itself seems pretty stale to me this year, (True, it's only the first day, and not procuring a Randor makes me a little sad-but I do have 2 more chances!) but the .org members are making the weekend a blast!

Hey People,

I really, really wish I could be there meeting you all and having a great time looking at all of the collectables coming our way, both "MOTU" and "non-MOTU".

However, being a University student who lives in Australia, makes it a little difficult. However, once I graduate things will be different.

Take Care,
Darren

Man! I wish I hadn't had to have left last night I was having soooo much fun. Looks like it continued long after I left

The con itself did seem to be a lot less big this year like there was less of everything. I still had fun and loved it but there didn't seem to be much to see or do. The last two years I've walked away with bags of stuff that I purchased and got for free. This year I walked away with exactly 6 things: Randor, Super Grover, Exclusive Old Man Invader Zim, a Thundercats hat, The Authority: Human on the Inside trade, and a sketch from Emiliano. I only got a few freebies, most of which was from val's booth. Oh well, I'd gladly do it again just to meet up with all the people I met up with though.

As for the Randor situation, I went over and waited in line outside at 7 am until 8 am when they let us in the building to line up then I waited in line until 9 am there to be let in to get in line for Randor where I stood in line for about another 40 minutes. Even after all that I was still 10th in line. You had to be there early.

Here's my sketch

Update...

Day 2.........

Shadow, Craig, RB and Myself went to see Dukes of Hazzard. It was a kick ass movie. The cars stunts were awesome. Not a lot of jessica whichi s good. Cuase she sucks. Jas ditched us so he didnt make it to the movie because he sucks.

We went to Chillis for dinner. We were each broken into a table of 6. My table had the most fun. We were the cool table !!! Dr. Jerico taught us all how to drink and showed us the ways of the force of alchoal. Darth Sidiuos the dark beer was drank by Shadow who got heavily intoxicated and made out with numerous women. Jaster did shots and is a big alcholic..I never knew he could actualy drink!!!! Craig was drinking with Jerico and he didnt get intocxicated like the rest of us. RB got drunk. I was perfeclty sober and was in control of of everyone. Those guys were really loud and I Have to say we were the loudest table at the resturant.

We have some great dirty pics that cannot be posted on this borad without us getting banned. Intrestined people can pm us for those pics. We thank you for your support..

I was going to join everyone at Chili's, but I came to the he-man.org booth a few minutes before 6 pm, and while everyone knew that they were going to Chili's, no one seemed to be able to specify how to get there. I asked around for a bit, with people pointing at other people who supposedly knew how to get there, but then didn't and refered me to someone else. And then, I was hanging out, waiting for some specifics, still kinda asking around, and all of the sudden everyone just kind of walked away to leave, and I was kind of left hanging (I'm sure this wasn't intentional, but intentional or not, I was pretty much left hanging with a big question mark over my head). swiftwindx (real name Greg, and a very nice person) happened to come by around that time, and he had some slightly more specific directions (he gave me what they were to the best of his knowledge), but even those weren't certain.

So, given the essential lack of plan (or so it seemed based on what info I had) and being left 'hanging' so to speak, and the fact that my fiance and I were both pretty tired from walking around the con all day and had a 45 minute drive ahead of us to get home, we just said to heck with it and went to the parking garage to get my car and headed home (yes, I only live 45 minutes away from the convention, but aside from the specifics of how to get to the convention itself, I really am not familiar with the immediate surrouding area at all).

I will be at the con tomorrow, though. We have 3 day passes, and originally we were only going to be there Fri and Sat, but we deiced to go for the 3rd day and try and get tickets for the Kevin Smith signing. Most likely we will head on over to the .org booth for a little bit to hang out prior to the signing.

I was hoping this would be the way it would work out. I can certainly arrange to be there next year. I didn't actually discover so many of you were going this year until it was to late for me to make plans. I think a year will be plenty of time. I just hope everybody that went this year will feel the same as you two, and attend again next year.

Yeah, it is to early to make any definite plans, but I'll probably be needing a roomie when I go. But like I said, it is early, you or I could either (or both) have people attending with us by then to room with. As it stands now, though, I stand alone.

That would be my whole reason to make the trip (next year) to Chicago for the convention. I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and we have a Wizard World Convention of our own. If I was going to go just to look around, I would go there. My reason for going is to meet my fellow Orgers. The more people who feel the way you do, the more likly everyone will return next year.

I was afraid this would be the only year everyone would go because the toyline was cancelled, and this might be the last year featuring MotU stuff. But the more people who enjoyed attending because of the get together with fellow Org members, the more likly they will return next year, despite the lack of MotU stuff.

Well I live about an hour away from the cons so if anybody needs a place to stay next year let me know. I have a giant house,3 giant chow chow dogs and huge collection room. My mom owns a bar too so we will have a great time.

Naw, no one was bad in the least.

It was with out a doubt good times this past weekend. I had a blast. I don’t have a lot of pictures because I was too busy drinking. That impaired my ability to think about taking pictures.

It was a shockingly good times for all..

WHOA SON! I wasn't drunk. I was buzzing. If I were drunk, I would have looked like a star wars unleashed figure every time I moved…The Shocker Unleashed.
